“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending September 27th, 2015

ROBBERY
On Sunday, Sept. 27th, around 5:45 p.m., Ofc. Mangan responded to the 1700 block of Decoto Rd. for a just-occurred robbery report. The victim was walking with her purse draped over her shoulder, when two suspects forcibly pulled the purse from her shoulder and fled in a green, older model, single cab pickup. Both suspects were described as black males, 18-25 years old, 5’10” to 6’2” and 160-200 lbs.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Attempted Robbery:
On Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, around 12 p.m., Ofc. Cota was dispatched to the 1700 block of Decoto on reports of a robbery attempt. A suspect rode up next to the victim on a bike and grabbed the gold necklace from her neck. They struggled, and the suspect rode away on his bike without any stolen property. The suspect was described as an Asian male or Hispanic male, 40-50 years old, 5’7” with a thin build, riding a black or gray bike.

Brandishing:
On Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, around 11 p.m., Officer Llamas responded to Union Landing on reports of brandishing a firearm. Two victims yelled at a driver after he almost hit them backing out of a parking space. The driver said to them, “You guys think you are tough?” and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at them. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his mid-30s, with slicked back hair. He was driving a newer model, white Toyota Corolla.

Vehicle Theft Arrest:
On Friday, Sept. 25th, around 9 p.m., Ofc. Olson was patrolling the area of Whipple Blvd. and located a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Fremont. The suspect fled after an attempted traffic stop, but was located after a perimeter was established. Robert Gallardo, a 37-year-old Newark resident, was arrested for vehicle theft and the possession of burglary tools.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Sept. 21st through Sunday, Sept. 27th, there were two reported residential burglaries:
• 100 block of Aurora Plaza: Occurred on Monday, Sept. 21st, between 6:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. The suspect cut the screen to the sliding glass door, which was left open by the residents. The loss was a laptop.
• 20 block of Union Square: Occurred between Sunday, Sept. 13th at 6 a.m., and Saturday, Sept. 26th at 4 p.m. The bicycle storage area of the complex was pried open, and a mountain bike was stolen.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Sept. 21st through Sunday, Sept. 27th, there were no reported commercial burglaries and two attempts:
• 30000 block of Ahern St. (attempt only): Occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd, around 11 p.m. A window was broken, but there was no entry or loss.
• 31000 block of Alvarado-Niles Rd. (attempt only): Occurred on Friday, Sept. 25th, between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. The outside screen was partially pried off the window, but the window was locked.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Sept. 21st through Sunday, Sept. 27th, there were four reported auto burglaries. All of them occurred in shopping centers in the afternoon or evening, and involved items that were left in plain view on the rear floorboards or seats. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!

From Monday, Sept. 21st through Sunday, Sept. 27th, there were six reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, four of the vehicles have been recovered.
