Traffic Stop Leads to Four Arrests and Recovery of 115 Grams of Heroin

Logansport – This morning, a traffic stop by Indiana State Trooper Matthew Moon led to the arrests of Edward Berna, 30, Alejandro Bueno, 18, Yanet Torres, 18, all from Goshen, IN, and Jose Garcia, 35, whose address is unknown. They were incarcerated in the Cass County Jail to face numerous criminal charges.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., Moon initiated a traffic stop on a 2009 Jeep SUV which was traveling northbound on State Road 25 near Old State Road 25, in Logansport. Moon allegedly clocked, with radar, the Jeep traveling 77 miles per hour in a posted 60 miles per hour zone. During the course of the traffic stop, Moon, and assisting officers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, purportedly smelled the odor of raw marijuana emitting from the Jeep.

During a subsequent search of the Jeep, and its four occupants, officers allegedly found approximately 115 grams of heroin, approximately six grams of cocaine, a schedule III narcotic, marijuana, and a plastic container with a false compartment inside. Officers also allegedly found a loaded nine millimeter handgun, which had been reported as stolen from Noble County, Indiana. Further investigation revealed the Jeep’s driver, Edward Berna, was allegedly driving without ever having received an operator’s license.
