Media Release

A stolen truck has led to the arrest of two men for a robbery August 4 in Kailua-Kona.

On that date, a 32-year-old Kailua-Kona man was robbed of his bag in the parking lot of a shopping center near the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Palani Road.

At 11:45 a.m. Tuesday (September 29), police officers observed a pickup truck in Kailua-Kona that had been reported stolen Monday (September 28) from a home on the 75-6100 block of Papala Place in Kailua-Kona. They arrested 28-year-old Alihilani Joshua Stringert and a woman with him, 37-year-old Lila Uyeshiro, both of Kailua-Kona, on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. Stringert was also arrested on suspicion of the robbery and other offenses. Both were taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police arrested 25-year-old Christiansan Ikaika Kaawa on suspicion of the robbery. He was also charged with an unrelated contempt of court offense with bail for that set at $600. Wednesday morning, Kaawa was taken to court on the contempt charge and then returned to the cellblock.

At 3 p.m. Wednesday, Uyeshiro was released without charges.

Kaawa was charged with robbery and his bail on that offense was set at $25,000.

Stringert was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of robbery and one count of theft. The second robbery was for an incident September 10 during which a Captain Cook woman’s purse was taken as she was about to enter a business establishment on the 74-5000 block of Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona. The theft offense was for an incident on September 25, when clothing and a skateboard were removed from a store in Kainaliu. Stringert’s bail was set at $61,000.

Kaawa and Stringert are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday (October 1).
