The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

September 21, 2015

1435 hours: Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person in the area of 6017 Morning Glory Ct. Upon arrival Officers were approached by numerous neighbors who advised that the occupants of the house are possibly manufacturing and/or selling drugs. They provided information regarding vehicles coming and going all hours of the night, subjects dropping of large plastic drums and pedestrians throwing backpacks over the side fence of the residence during the overnight hours. Officers contacted six people inside the residence all of whom are well known to Newark PD. A 46 year old male from Newark was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs. The home owner was contacted and he advised he is in the process of evicting the occupants. Thank you for all the neighbors who brought this house to our attention. NOTE: As of 9-28-2015, the occupants have all moved out of the residence.

2112 Hours: Officer Smith cited and released a 35 year old male from Newark for 369i(a)PC after catching him climbing on the railroad crossing gate arm structure near the intersection of Baine Ave. and Cherry St.

2142 Hours: A pedestrian stop by Officer Mapes on Bitterroot Ave. resulted in the arrest of a 35 year old male of Fremont for 11377(a)H&S- possession of methamphetamine. He was cited and released at the scene.

2051 Hours: Officer Norvell responded to a report of subjects trespassing on railroad property near Spruce St. A 19 year old male from Newark was contacted and arrested for a misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0502 Hours: Officer Homayoun responded to a report of suspicious people on bicycles on Civic Terrace Ave. He contacted a 22 year old female of Newark. She was found to have a misdemeanor warrant and was cited and released at the scene.

September 22, 2015

0730 Hours: Officer Allum attempted to stop a vehicle on Cherry Street, but the driver continued for several blocks until he was forced to stop due to heavy traffic on Cedar Blvd at Birch Street. Officer Allum noticed the driver had a pistol in the vehicle. The driver was detained without incident and identified as a 30 year old male from San Lorenzo. The pistol turned out to be a realistic looking bb gun. In the end; Hodges was charged with 30305 PC- convicted felon in possession of ammunition, 496 PC- possession of stolen property, 3056 PC- parole violation, 2800.2 VC- evading a police officer, 23103 VC- reckless driving, and 14601 VC- driving on a suspended drivers license. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2146 Hours: While investigating an auto-burglary that occurred in the BJ’s restaurant parking lot, Officer Norvell located property that appeared to have been discarded from other recent auto-burglaries (6 backpacks and a laptop case). The property appears to belong to visitors from Europe and Officer Norvell was able to contact some of the property owner’s family members during the night.

September 23, 2015

0716 Hours: Officer Bloom investigated a vehicle burglary in the 6100 block of Joaquin Murieta Ave.

0717 Hours: Officer Musantry contacted and arrested a 42 year old transient male for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

0831 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a burglary at Amigo Cell Wireless, located at 36768 Cedar Blvd. Cellular phone and money were taken from the location.

1633 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a residential burglary in the 38000 block of Woodruff Dr. The home was ransacked and the extent of the theft is still unknown.

1726 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a residential burglary in the 36700 block of Port Fogwood Place.

1935 Hours: During a warrant service at a residence on Dalewood Dr., Officer Johnson arrested a 30 year old male from Newark for a misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at San Mateo County Jail.

2021 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated a minor injury traffic collision that occurred at the intersection of Spruce St. and Thornton Ave.

0137 Hours: A traffic stop by Officer Johnson on Cedar Blvd. resulted in the arrest of a 21 year old female from Menlo Park for 23152(a)VC - DUI. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.


September 24, 2015

0910 Hours: Officer Bloom was dispatched to Safeway for a petty theft that just occurred. Officer Bloom arrived and located the suspect, a 22 year old male from Newark, just outside the store. A Safeway manager placed the suspect under citizen’s arrest. Officer Bloom accepted the arrest and issued the suspect a citation for Petty Theft (484(a) PC).

1404 Hours: Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 54 year old transient male for possessing drug paraphernalia (11364 H&S). He was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1448 Hours: Officer Horst responded to the Macy’s department store for two shoplifters in custody. Officer Horst subsequently arrested a 29 year old female from Newark and a 32 year old female of San Jose for grand theft - 487(a) PC. They were both transported to Fremont Jail.

0030 Hours: Officer Khairy arrested a 37 year old female of Newark for 22810(a) PC- illegal possession of tear gas by a convicted felon. She was booked at Fremont Jail.

0108 Hours: Officer Rodgers arrested a 42 year old male of Newark for 11550 H&S- under the influence of drugs.

September 25, 2015

1107 Hours: Officer Katz contacted and arrested a 28 year old male from Union City for possessing dangerous drugs (H&S 11377) and drug paraphernalia (H&S 11364.1). He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1232 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 52 year old transient male for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1233 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 57 year old transient male for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1612 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 28 year old transient male for his outstanding arrest warrant and for possessing dangerous drugs (H&S 11377). He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1722 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 53 year old female from Fremont for her outstanding arrest warrant. She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

2006 Hours: Officer Smith investigated a stolen blue1996 Acura Integra (CA license plate# 4FML619) from the Newark Pavilion parking lot located at 6430 Thornton Ave that occurred between 0800-1800 hours.

2150 Hours: Cargill Salt employees reported that a vehicle drove through their cyclone fenced gate at the extreme west end of Central Avenue. The vehicle drove approximately three miles along various levees before driving off a levee and into a ditch barely missing a 6 feet deep salt pond by a few feet. The driver, a 24 year old male from Fremont, was arrested for DUI and booked at Fremont PD Jail.

2233 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a robbery that occurred in the NewPark Mall lower Macy’s parking lot that occurred at approximately 10:00 PM. Two adult males in their mid-late twenties exited a white colored sedan and approached victim who was waiting for friends to pick her up. One of the suspects was carrying a dark short barreled handgun. He was described as having long braids or dreads and wearing all black clothing. The second suspect had short hair and was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. They demanded her purse and her cell phone. The suspects fled in the sedan toward the McDonald’s on Mowry Ave. The vehicle had a driver other than the two suspects.

0057 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a commercial burglary at Haller’s Pharmacy located at 6170 Thornton Ave. Unknown suspects shattered the front window to allow entry to the business.

September 26, 2015

1956 Hours: Officers were dispatched to a just occurred hit and run collision in the 6200 block of Dairy Ave. A witness to the collision followed the suspect vehicle and provided a license plate and vehicle description. The registration came back to a residence on Lafayette Ave. The vehicle was located in the driveway and a 45 year old male from Newark was determined to be the driver. He was also intoxicated and eventually arrested for DUI and hit and run. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2127 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to the Macy’s department store for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Khairy arrested a 41 year old female from Newark for petty theft and an outstanding no cite warrant. She was transported to Fremont Jail.

2328 Hours: Officers responded to a fight in progress involving 20 people at a residence in the 37000 block of Laurel St. Upon arrival, the first officers on scene could hear screaming and items being thrown coming from inside the residence. Officers initially encountered five people outside the front door of the residence. One person, later identified as a 40 year old male from San Jose, was arrested for failing to obey the lawful orders of an officer. With clenched fists, he walked determinedly towards officers disregarding all commands to stop. After several attempts to negotiate with him and the male failing to coherently respond, he was forcibly detained. As all of this was occurring the chaos inside the residence continued. Several times while officers were dealing with the uncooperative male, residents came outside telling officers that they needed to get inside the residence. Officers were finally able to gain the cooperation of the residents and guests. The 40 year old male was arrested for 148 PC, medically cleared and transported to Santa Rita Jail.

2354 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a non-injury collision on Central Ave. and Central Ct. A Grey Mitsubishi Eclipse lost control hitting a fire hydrant.

September 27, 2015

1202 hours: Officer Nobbe was on patrol when he observed a person matching a suspect depicted in CCTV footage of a theft at the 7-11 Store located at 39620 Cedar Blvd he was investigating. Officer Nobbe contacted a 29 year old male from Newark at NewPark Mall and obtained a confession. The owners of 7-11 Store agreed to work out a civil agreement with Kuehn in lieu of pressing charges.

0913 hours: Officers responded to a request for a welfare check at 6280 Wilma Ave. The reporting party stated that he is aware of an elderly woman living at the home who is watched over by a caregiver. The caller stated he could hear a woman screaming that she wanted to kill someone. Officer Losier contacted the caregiver, a 45 year old Newark resident, and arrested her for her no-cite 11550 H&S- under the influence of drugs warrant. He also spoke with the elderly female and confirmed she was in good health and spirits. Another occupant of the home remained on scene to provide her care.

Dispatch received numerous noise complaints throughout the evening that stemmed from a concert at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View.

2245 Hours: Earlier in the day, Officer Nobbe investigated a burglary at All American Rentals located at 8136 Enterprise Dr. Loss was one of the company’s Ford E350 trucks, large work equipment, tools, boots, and framed artwork. The vehicle was located by an All American Rental employee who was hoping to have it towed by their own tow company. The vehicle was towed to the Newark City Yard for further evidence processing.
