Fontana deputies connect a family of five with Sheriff's HOPE (Homeless Outreach Proactive Enforcement) Team
DATE/TIME: Thursday, September 24, 2015
LOCATION: County area of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Thursday, September 24, 2015, Fontana MET Deputies Hernandez and Beare received a call from a patrol deputy regarding a family of five who were living in their vehicle. Hernandez and Beare immediately contacted the Homeless Outreach Proactive Enforcement (H.O.P.E.) team for assistance. After contacting the family and assessing their situation, HOPE team Deputy Mike Jones connected the family with several different service providers. One of the providers was able to link the family with "bridge housing", which provided them with immediate, albeit temporary, housing. While in temporary housing the family will be in the process of applying for permanent supportive housing. The initial intervention by Fontana patrol and MET deputies and their collaboration with the HOPE team is indicative of a more modern and effective law enforcement approach to homelessness.
