Charter Bus Crash on I-70 Injures Three

 

Morgan Co., - Three persons were transported to a local hospital late this morning after a charter bus, traveling to Kansas City, Missouri from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, crashed on I-70 in Morgan County.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements reveled that on September 28th at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Hartland Trailways charter bus, of St. Joseph, Missouri, was on I-70 WB at the 53mm in the right lane when it experienced a blow out on the right front steer tire. The bus went off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment, striking a tree with the right front of the bus, and came to rest in a cornfield. Three people of the fifty four passengers were transported to Hendricks County Regional Hospital for complaint of pain. The bus passengers were guests of the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City- St. Joseph, returning after a trip to Philadelphia to view the visit of Pope Francis. The remaining passengers were taken by school bus to the truck stop at the 51mm (Little Point exit) to await alternate transportation.

I-70 WB at the crash scene was reduced to one lane for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated, a bus inspection performed and the wreckage removed.

Investigating Officers: Trooper John Myers, Trooper Tim Cummings, Indiana State Police and Trooper Byron Goodman, Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement.

Assisting Agencies: Curtis Wrecker Service, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, Liberty Township Fire, and Plainfield Medical.
