SUMMARY: On September 27, 2015, at approximately 1:40 am, deputies from the Loma Linda station were conducting proactive patrol and observed two males riding a bicycle into Loma Linda from the Redlands area. Loma Linda deputies have been conducting high visibility patrol within identified areas of the community where an increase in night time thefts and burglaries have been noticed. Deputies conducted a stop on the two subjects for riding a bicycle without proper lighting equipment. Deputies identified the subjects as Matthew Garcia and Richard Gonzales, both from Redlands. During their contact, deputies located wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, a screw driver and a ski mask in their possession.
As the investigation continued, neither Garcia nor Gonzales could provide deputies with any reasonable justification for possessing the tools, ski mask or for being in the residential area at that time of the morning. Deputies determined the items found on Garcia and Gonzales were intended for use as burglary tools. Both suspects were arrested without incident and booked into Central Detention Center for violation of PC 466, Possession of Burglary tools.
