Historical 1869 Clayton County Jail Reopens as Museum. Sheriff Victor Hill. Click here for info.

Next Saturday October 3, 2015, the historical 1859 jail (pictured below) located at 125 King St. Jonesboro Ga. will reopen for tours from 12:00-3:00 p.m. During this period of Clayton County history, Sheriffs lived in the jail with their wives who cooked also for the inmates. The old jail could hold up to 9 inmates which is a sharp contrast to the 1900 bed facility we have for a jail today on Tara Blvd. The museum has many artifacts from that time period and is a interesting look into the past of law-enforcement.

On this same date from 11:00-4:00 pm a barbecue will be held at the Firehouse Museum located at 103 W. Mill Street, Jonesboro Ga. which is another historical site.
Tickets are $8.00 each for BBQ and admission to the old jail. Tickets are available for purchase at Stately Oaks Plantation located at 100 Carriage Lane Jonesboro GA. For further information call Stately Oaks at 770-473-0197.
