Decatur County-This afternoon at approximately 1:13 PM, the Indiana State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on I-74 westbound near the 129.5 mile marker. When officers arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle overturned and fully engulfed with flames in the middle of the roadway.
Initial investigation by Senior Trooper Chris Richey revealed that a Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a trailer type air compressor, driven by Juan Murillo, 44, Hammond, Indiana was westbound on I-74 when Murillo lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail before overturning and catching fire in the middle of the westbound lanes. Murillo was able to exit the vehicle and move to a safe distance from the vehicle. Murillo suffered from minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
I-74 remained closed in the area for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was cleared and the bridge where the crash occurred was inspected. An alternate traffic route was established for westbound I-74 traffic. Inspectors determined that no structural damage occurred to the bridge and the bridge was safe for traffic to continue to use.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Greensburg Police Department, Greensburg Fire Department, St. Paul Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, Davis Wrecker Service, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
