Grant County Sheriff’s Office Announces “Name the New Deputy K-9” Project.

EPRHATA, Wash. (23SEPT2015) – As previously announced, through the generosity of many citizens and local businesses, the Grant County Sheriff's Office has been able to purchase their first two K9s. The dogs will be "patrol K9s" or used for tracking people and acting as a protective partner for their human deputy. The dogs begin training with their new partners, Deputy Dave DeLaRosa of Royal City, and Deputy Jaret Fulbright of Moses Lake, on October 5th.

There's just one thing left - what to name the new deputies.

The GCSO has therefore partnered with students at Red Rock Elementary School to help name the new deputy K-9 living in Royal City, and the Boys & Girls Club of the Columbia Basin to help name the K-9 deputy living in Moses Lake.

As the new K-9 deputies need their names before their first day of training on October 5th, the entry deadline at each location is Friday, September 25th at 4:00pm. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges and a winner from each location will be contacted and announced Tuesday, September 29th, 2015.

The winning entries from Red Rock Elementary School as well as the Boys & Girls Club will each receive:

• A "meet & greet" demonstration from the new K-9 team;
• A commemorative photo alongside the new K-9 Team and Sheriff Tom Jones;
• A Grant County Sheriff's Office Challenge Coin.

Sheriff Tom Jones said, “We are really looking forward to the kids’ input as we expect they will have great suggestions for our new deputy K-9s. Our sincerest thanks in advance to the students as well as our partners at the Boys & Girls Club and Red Rock Elementary School for their help in facilitating this project. It means a lot to us.”
