Suspect arrested in connection with injuring a family’s dog during a residential burglary
A 21 year old adult male was arrested earlier this morning by Fremont Detectives in connection with the August 28, 2015, residential burglary incident where a dog was injured.
On August 28, 2015, Fremont police officers began investigating an incident where video surveillance captured images of two suspects breaking and entering a home on the 40800 block of Amapola Drive in Fremont. During the commission of the residential burglary, the suspects injured Marlie, the family’s dog, when they threw food and dog treats on shattered glass. Marlie consumed the glass and sustained cuts and injuries to her mouth. Marlie was treated for her injuries and has recovered.
In an effort to identify the suspects, detectives issued a law enforcement bulletin to surrounding agencies and notified the public by releasing video of the suspects. Upon the release of the photographs, officers received information helping to identify one of the suspects. Today, September 23, 2015, detectives arrested Valdo Diaz, 21, of Oakland, on charges of residential burglary, felony animal cruelty and for a parole violation. Diaz’s first court appearance is scheduled for September 24, 2015, at the Fremont Superior Courthouse.
This remains an ongoing investigation and detectives are asking anyone who may have information about this case, to please call 510-790-6900 or email Detective Ceniceros at [email protected]. Detectives are also investigating whether Diaz is responsible for other burglaries that have been committed in Fremont.
