APD and Animal Management and Welfare investigate cruelty to animal case. Warrant issued.

On September 1st at 4:39pm, APD officers were dispatched to meet Animal Management and Welfare officers at the Swan Animal Clinic on SW 45th in reference to a report of animal cruelty. Upon arrival, officers found an adult female Siberian Husky mix that had been shot three times. Officers learned that the dog had been found as a stray by an individual who was trying to care for the animal and its injuries. This same individual realized that they did not have the capabilities to provide the medical attention the dog needed and took it to the Animal Shelter who in turn took it to Swan Animal Clinic for medical treatment.

After making the initial report, Animal Management and Welfare officers began the task of attempting to locate the owner of the animal and the person responsible for its injuries. During Animal Management and Welfare’s thorough investigation, they were able to locate a possible suspect in the dog’s injuries. APD Detectives then followed up on the suspect information and case was presented to the Randall County District Attorney’s office.

On September 22 a felony charge of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animal was accepted and a warrant was issued for Dustin Dewayne Kreger W/M 22 of Amarillo.  At this time Kreger has been notified of the outstanding warrant, but has not been booked into jail nor turned himself in.

Piper, the Siberian Husky has been returned to the veterinarian for a follow up visit. She is expected to fully recover and will be available for adoption soon.
