Attempted Residential Burglary with Firearm

On Tuesday, 9-22-2015, at approximately 7:42 PM, the Sausalito Police Department responded to the 100 block of Central Avenue on a report of a man with a gun demanding money from a resident. Officers responded to the residence and set up a perimeter immediately. An extensive search of the area was conducted by the Sausalito Police Department with the assistance of Mill Valley PD, Marin County Sherriff and a K-9 from Novato Police.

The victim reported the suspect entered the residence through an open side door and confronted her in her living room as she was seated on her couch. The male suspect pointed a dark colored handgun at the victim and demanded money from her. The victim stood up and screamed at the suspect to get out of her house, at which point the suspect pushed the victim down and fled the residence on foot in an unknown direction without taking any property. The victim was not injured and called 911 as the suspect fled her residence.

The victim described the suspect as being an unknown race male who was wearing blue jeans, neutral colored long sleeve jacket, and unknown type of mask that had a yellow and black pattern on it. The suspect was between 5’8” and 5’10” and had a slight build.

The Sausalito Police Department is issuing this notification in hopes of preventing similar incidents. Below is a list of crime prevention tips to help safeguard your residence and yourself from criminals:

• Report all suspicious persons/vehicles in your neighborhood.
• Check to make sure all doors and windows are secure before leaving for the day or when you are at home for the rest of the evening.
• Secure your hide-a-key. If you insist on having an outside hide-a-key, put it in a locked device that secures to your house and can be opened with a combination.
• Get and alarm system for your house and make sure you use it when you leave for the day and every night. Post a sign or sticker that announces to everyone that you have an alarm.
• Secure your valuables in your house. A safe is important for everyone to have, not only for jewelry, but for passports and other ID as well.
