8th Annual Crime Prevention Extravaganza

This Saturday, September 26th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Grapevine Police Department Crime Prevention Unit with the assistance of our VIPS and in conjunction with Data Shredding Services are hosting our 8th Annual Crime Prevention Extravaganza in the parking lot directly across from the Police Department (307 W. Dallas Rd).

During the event unwanted confidential documents can be dropped off by residents and city employees and shredded on the spot, free of charge, by Data Shredding Services. Criminals need very little information to steal your identity. By gaining access to bank statements, canceled checks, tax records, and medical bills, criminals can obtain the information they need to apply for credit cards, cellular phones, loans, bank accounts, apartments and utility accounts in your name. The shredding of confidential papers goes a long way in protecting your identity.

We will also be providing VIN etching in which vehicle identification numbers can be permanently etched into their major windows, free of charge. With Texas ranking number two in the nation in auto theft, with a vehicle stolen approximately every eight minutes, VIN etching is a low cost measure which makes a vehicle less attractive to car thieves. By having the vehicle’s VIN number permanently etched into every major window of a vehicle, car thieves would need to replace all the etched windows before attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

We are also able to inspect and install Child Safety Seats. Children up to 8 years old, unless taller than 4 feet 9 inches, must ride in a child safety seat and most children between the ages of 4 to 8 need a booster seat to be safe and comply with state law. The free installation and inspections of child safety seats allow parents to receive hands on training in the proper use of a child safety seat and insure that their child’s safety seat had been installed correctly.

The Extravaganza will coincide with the DEAs National Drug Take-back day. The purpose of National Take Back Day is to provide a venue for persons who wanted to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. These efforts have been a huge success in removing potentially dangerous prescription drugs, particularly controlled substances, from our nation’s medicine cabinets.

In an effort to address this problem the DEA, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, will conduct a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day where on this day Grapevine residents, business, and City Employees can drop off their unwanted and expired prescription drugs at the Grapevine Police Department.

Our Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni will also be holding a bake sale fundraiser at the event.
