Juvenile charged with vandalism of Police Car

The Jackson Police Department has positively identified the juvenile who was photographed standing on top of a police car at the Old Hickory Mall and has charged the 17 year old with vandalism.

On the evening of Sept. 20, officers of the Jackson Police Department were made aware of a picture circulating on social media that depicted a young black male standing on top of a police car. Jackson Police initiated an investigation to identify the male subject. The juvenile was identified and, with cooperation of the juvenile’s family, the case has been resolved.

The damaged police car was assigned to an officer working security at the Old Hickory Mall.

The juvenile and his parents met with Police Chief Julian Wiser this morning, Sept. 21, at the Jackson Police Department. The juvenile took responsibility for his actions. Chief Wiser and the parents agree the juvenile should be held accountable for his actions, which caused damage to city property. The police car had dents on the trunk and hood.

The juvenile will have a court date in the juvenile court system, where he will answer to the charges of vandalism.
