On Saturday, September 19, 2015, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, San Dimas Station, received a call from a resident indicating they had found an apparent dead body while hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains.  The San Dimas Mountain Search and Rescue team was activated after deputies from the Air Rescue 5 helicopter confirmed the discovery.  The search and rescue team members responded to the area of Prairie Fork Road (mile marker 0.13), just south of the Bridge to Nowhere in San Gabriel Canyon.  Due to the fact the body was covered with mud and debris, extrication was delayed.  Members of the Sheriff’s Department provided security at the scene throughout the night. 

On Sunday morning, September 20, 2015, the Sheriff’s Air Rescue 5 helicopter airlifted investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department's Homicide Bureau and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner–Coroner into the scene.  The body was extricated and removed from the area early Sunday afternoon. 

No identification of the body, other than it is that of a man, is available at this time. 

Further investigation as to the exact cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner–Coroner personnel.  The investigation is on-going.
