Vehicle into Mill Pond

Sheriff Joseph M Underwood reports that on 09/19/2015 at 0104 A.M. his Deputies responded to M 62 Hwy near Dutch Settlement Road in Wayne Township, Cass County Michigan, for a single vehicle traffic crash. A vehicle driven by 20 year old Caleb G - Joseph - Glenn Jones from Dowagiac, Michigan, was traveling west on M-62 and fell asleep while driving, Jones ran off the road and hit a guard rail then went down an embankment and was submerged in the Dowagiac Mill Pond. Jones exited the vehicle through the sun roof and swam to shore. Jones was transported to Dowagiac Lee Borgess Hospital for his injuries. A seatbelt was worn during the traffic crash and alcohol is not a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Cass County Sheriff Deputies were assisted at the crash scene by Dowagiac Police Department, Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Dowagiac Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
