Advisory

Irwindale Speedway to Honor Police, Fire & EMS Personnel at First Responder's Night this Saturday Night!

This Saturday night, September 19th, the Irwindale Police Department will join other emergency service personnel in a pre-race ceremony at the Irwindale Speedway that will honor First Responders.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell will serve as the evening’s Grand Marshall and will be introduced by Irwindale Police Chief Anthony Miranda during the special ceremony before the evening’s NASCAR racing begins.

Surrounded by a bevy of race cars and police, fire and EMS workers and their vehicles, the special ceremony will take place on the racetrack before the races begin and will include remarks from Sheriff McDonnell, Chief Miranda, Irwindale Event Center officials and other dignitaries. A special presentation of our nation’s colors and the National Anthem will culminate with a flyover of emergency service helicopters. Grand Marshall McDonnell will then give the coveted “Racers, Start Your Engines!” command.

The pre-race ceremony will also feature first-response vehicles and their crews getting cheered on by the race fans as they take several victory laps around Irwindale’s famed banked oval racetrack, complete with their emergency lights and sirens!

Race fans can see all of the emergency vehicles and meet the first responders up close right down on the racetrack's surface before the ceremony. They can also visit the many community outreach and career booths in the “Fan Zone” under the grandstands.

First responders, emergency equipment and dignitaries from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Fire Departments, the California Highway Patrol, the Irwindale, Pasadena, Azusa, El Monte, Santa Monica, La Verne, Los Angeles, Baldwin Park, San Gabriel, and Inglewood Police Departments, as well many more are scheduled to attend!

The first responder ceremony will be part of the Speedway’s full night of exciting, fun-filled racing events! Everyone is invited to come out and recognize our first responders and take in a night of spectacular racing!

Gates open at 4:00 PM, the on-track "meet-and-greet" with the racers and first responders runs from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM, the pre-race ceremony begins at 6:30 PM and racing starts at 7:00 PM!

First Responders with identification will be admitted for free and they can purchase additional tickets at a reduced price.

Visit the Irwindale Event Center Web Site at www.irwindaleeventcenter.com for more information on the night’s full racing schedule, as well as ticket pricing and event information.
