Heroin Supplier Arrested

Salvador Cortes Duran, age 52, of Oxnard was arrested for the following felonies: possession of heroin for sale, transportation of heroin, possession of heroin within a school zone, possession of a loaded gun while in possession of heroin, and conspiracy to sell and transport heroin.

Over the last several weeks narcotics detectives from the Santa Barbara Police Department investigated Duran’s drug-related activities. Their investigation revealed that Duran was a major supplier of heroin to dealers in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. On September 15, 2015 SBPD detectives obtained search warrants for Duran’s residences on the 2900 block of W. Wooley Road and the 100 block of N. Juanita Avenue in Oxnard. The N. Juanita Avenue residence is adjacent to an elementary school. On the morning of September 16, 2015 SBPD detectives, assisted by detectives from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office and Oxnard Police Department, served the search warrants at both locations. Duran was contacted while he was seated in his car outside of the N. Juanita Avenue location and taken into custody.

During the searches of the two residences detectives found the following:

• 8.9 pounds of heroin valued at over $130,000.00

• $96,000.00 in cash

• four handguns, two of which were loaded

• a ballistic vest

• records indicating Duran’s involvement in the narcotics trade

Duran was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned charges with a bail amount of $500,000.00.
