The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity in our community for the past 7 days.

September 8, 2015

1304 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a suspicious circumstance at a residence in the 38700 block of Jonquil Drive. According to the caller, two adult black males associated with a dark colored vehicle were seen lurking around the listed address. One suspect rang the doorbell and was seen looking into the windows of the residence while the other attempted to jump a side fence but was unsuccessful. Both fled south on Rockrose.

1642 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated an auto collision involving 5 vehicles at the intersection of Thornton Avenue/Sycamore Street.

September 9, 2015

1403 Hours: Officer Kovach accepted the citizen’s arrest of a juvenile from Macy’s Department Store. The juvenile was caught stealing clothing items. The juvenile was released with a notice to appear to his mother.

1445 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 36600 block of Munyan St. for a reported house fire. Officer Bloom arrived on scene and began evacuating the owner of the residence and his surround neighbors. The Alameda County Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire before it spread to a neighboring house.

0219 Hours: Three adult black males smashed a glass door at the NewPark Mall (entry #4) forcing their way into the mall. They were heading to an undetermined store inside the Mall when they were confronted by construction workers that happened to be working inside at the time. The suspects then fled to a small black colored sedan that was last seen driving towards Mowry Ave.

0509 Hours: Three adult black males smashed the glass doors at Bhindi Jewelers, made entry and started smashing display cases. There was only a small amount of jewelry on display and the loss appears to be minimal. The suspect vehicle was described as a black colored Nissan Sentra.

September 10, 2015

0946 Hours: Officer Katz investigated the theft of a 1999 Chevrolet Tracker lic #6YIN560. The vehicle was parked on Bluebell Dr. at Birch St.


1812 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 38900 block of Bluebell Drive for a family disturbance making it our 4th response in the past three days at the residence. One of the occupants obtained a court issued immediate move out order for a 51 year old resident. Due to mention of potential firearms in the residence, this incident tied up all of our resources for the first couple hours of the shift. Additionally a 32 year old male from Newark was arrested for battery and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

September 11, 2015

0757 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 38 year old transient female for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was cited and released with a new court date.

1110 Hours: Officer Losier investigated the theft of a vehicle from a residence in the 5000 block of Northampton Ct. The vehicle taken was a black 2002 Isuzu Rodeo license # 5HTE918.

1431 Hours: Officer Todd responded to Macy’s for two shoplifters in custody. Officer Todd accepted the citizen’s arrest of 44 year old female from Hayward and a 21 year old female from Hayward. Both were issued citations and released.

1621 Hours: Officer Todd contacted and arrested a 19 year old male from Fremont for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was booked at Fremont City Jail.

1800 hours: Officer Horst responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 5500 block of McDonald Ave. The investigation determined a 33 year old male from Newark had committed domestic battery. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving. An Emergency Protective Order was granted for the victim and a complaint is being sent to the District Attorney’s Office for a warrant for the suspect.

1852 hours: Officers Smith and Johnson conducted a traffic stop on Thornton Ave. Officer Johnson arrested a 61 year old male for driving with a suspended driver’s license. He was released on a citation.

2155 hours: Officers Taylor and Simon responded to a domestic battery that just occurred at a residence in the 36800 block of Locust St. Officer Taylor arrested a 31 year old male for domestic violence battery. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

0156 hours: Officers Smith and Johnson conducted a check on a vehicle in the Aloft Hotel parking lot, 8200 Gateway Blvd. Officer Smith arrested one of the occupants, a 31 year old male from Antioch, for several traffic warrants. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

0205 hours: Officers Taylor and Simon responded to the Towne Place Suites, 39802 Cedar Blvd. on a disturbance. Officer Simon arrested a 23 year old male from Michigan for 647(f) PC- drunk in public. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.


September 12, 2015

0743 hours: Officers responded to an injury collision on Thornton Ave/Mayhews Landing Rd with a motorist lying in the roadway. One of the drivers was transported to a local trauma center with unknown injuries.

0745 hours: Officers responded to a report of a hit and run collision with injury at the intersection of Stevenson & Cherry St. The suspect fled from the collision prior to the arrival of officers. Officers were unable to locate the suspect immediately following the collision. Through investigation Officer Musantry was able to confirm who the driver was and locate a home address. Officer Musantry will conduct follow up. On September 13, 2015 Officer Musantry contacted the suspect at his home address. Officer Musantry arrested a 41 year old male from Newark for a violation of 20001 CVC- felony hit and run, 12500 (a) CVC- no driver’s license. He was transported and booked at Fremont Jail.

2247 hours: Officer Homayoun located a reported stolen vehicle that had been reported to NPD on 09/10/14. The 1999 Chevrolet Tracker was located on Sycamore St. and Graham Ave.

0058 hours: A 24 year old female from Newark was contacted during a traffic stop and arrested for 12500(a) VC – no driver’s license and 23222(b) VC- possession of marijuana in a vehicle. She was issued a citation and released.

September 13, 2015

0749 hours: Officer Losier investigated a cold burglary at Jiffy Lube 6305 Jarvis Ave. Entry was made via glass break.

0859 hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a residential burglary at a residence in the 5300 block of Sterling Court. The burglary occurred sometime over the last week and entry was through a second floor window.

1400 hours: Officers were dispatched to a collision in front of a residence in the 6800 block of George Ave. One of the residents of the home was sitting in his running vehicle in the driveway when a delivery truck arrived for delivery. The resident feared his large dog may confront the delivery driver, so in a panic he ran to the front door to restrain the dog, while leaving his engine running and vehicle in neutral. The vehicle backed into a delivery man, temporarily pinning him between the vehicle and delivery truck. The delivery driver was transported to a local Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The condition of the delivery driver is unknown.

1451 hours- Officer Losier responded to a residence in the 36900 block of Cherry St and arrested a 48 year old male from Newark, who had outstanding warrants out of Wisconsin for his arrest. He was transported and booked at Fremont Jail.

0456 hours: Officer Rodgers investigated an auto burglary at the Homewood Suites, 39270 Cedar Blvd. Entry was via a window smash and unknown loss at this time.


September 14, 2015

0912 hours: Officer Nobbe attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle for various vehicle code violations. Officer Nobbe followed behind the motorcycle until it accelerated away at a high rate of speed. Officer Nobbe discontinued his efforts to complete the traffic stop near the intersection of Cedar Blvd. and Mowry School Rd. Through investigation Officer Nobbe was able to identify the driver as a 22 year old male from Fremont.

1349 hours: Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot of Ultimate Deli, 39706 Cedar Blvd. Upon arrival Officer Nobbe located a 54 year old male from Fremont in the lot. He was found to be on searchable probation and during a subsequent search was found to be in possession of 2.5 grams of methamphetamine. He was cited for a violation of 11377 (a) H&S and released at the scene.

1545 hours: Officer Neithercutt was detailed to a report of a residential burglary in the 37000 block of Walnut St. The victim reported this incident occurred between 1430-1445 hours and entry was through an unlocked front door.

0209 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated a DUI collision that occurred at the entrance to the Bridgeport Apartments on Cherry St. A 36 year old male from Newark was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant, 23152(a)VC - DUI, and 23247(e)VC- failure to have a certified
Ignition interlock device. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
