WHAT: Assault of 21-Year Old Female

WHERE: 1600 Block of Fredericks Street

WHEN: 09-16-15 at 1:40 AM

VICTIM: 21-Year Old Female College Student

SUSPECT: Unidentified Male Described as 6’0” tall wearing grey hooded sweat shirt

On 09-16-15 shortly after 1:40 AM, San Luis Obispo Police responded to the area of the 1600 block of Fredericks Street regarding an assault that had just occurred. The female victim had been walking alone, coming from the downtown area. The suspect jumped out from a covering of bushes and grabbed the victim pulling her to the ground. The suspect then pinned her arms to the ground. The victim was able to break free of the suspects grasp and began striking the suspect in his face. She then broke free from the suspect and ran home where she contacted the police. The victim was not injured during this assault.

While this is an unusual occurrence in our community these types of offenses can occur. Fortunately, this victim was not seriously injured. We encourage all residents to follow these safety tips:

• Whenever possible, walk with friends • Avoid walking alone after dark
• Call for a taxi or a friend to give you a ride
• When on campus use the university escort service • Pay attention to your surroundings
• Stay on populated, well-lit streets
• Have your cell phone accessible to call 9-1-1
• If attacked, run to a well-lit or populated area

This investigation is ongoing. Investigators are trying to determine if this incident is related to other similar assaults that have occurred in the community.
