9/13/15, press release: burglary

On September 13, 2015 at approximately 05:02 am, the Burlington Police received a 911 call from an alert resident who reported that an individual was breaking into the Brixton Halaal store located at 184 North Street. The resident reported hearing the sound of breaking glass and observing a male going into the store. The caller advised that the male left walking east on North Street, only to return to and enter the store.

Upon arriving on scene, responding Officers observed Roberto A. Gines-Reyes fleeing from the scene. Gines-Reyes subsequently discarded a cash register and computer stolen from the business and ran east on North Street in an attempt to escape pursuing Officers. Gines-Reyes ran North on Elmwood Avenue and into a dead end parking area behind 163 Elmwood Avenue. Gines-Reyes was encounter in the entrance of the parking lot and taken into custody.

Gines-Reyes was subsequently lodged at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on $5000.00 bail. Gines-Reyes is scheduled for arraignment at Superior Court Chittenden Criminal Division on Monday, September 14, 2015.

A person convicted of burglary shall be imprisoned not more than 15 years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.
