WHAT: Arrest for Attempted Murder

WHERE: 1000 Block of Foothill

On 9-11-15, at approximately 6:50 AM San Luis Obispo Police Officers responded to the call of a female screaming from an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Foothill. When Officers arrived they found the 20 year old female victim covered in blood inside her apartment. The suspect was seen walking away from the apartment as officers were arriving. Approximately 15 minutes later the suspect was found hiding in the creek area behind Sierra Vista Hospital. Officers identified the suspect as 25 year old Derrick Moore, and discovered Moore had several lacerations on his upper right/rear shoulder area. Both the victim and Moore were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The investigation revealed the victim was leaving her apartment when she was confronted at her front door by Moore. Moore violently attacked the victim by assaulting her with a stun gun/Taser then forcing her to the ground. Moore continued the assault by punching the victim in the face several times as he held her on the floor of her apartment. As the victim continued to struggle and fend off Moore’s assault, she was able to manipulate a small knife which she had on her key chain and defend herself by jabbing the knife into the right side of Moore’s upper body. This caused Moore to stop his assault and flee the area as police were responding.

Moore was unknown to the victim however she had seen him in the apartment complex on two other recent occasions in the early morning hours. She had called SLO PD on one of these occasions because she was concerned about his strange behavior. Moore was gone prior to the officer’s arrival during that call for service.

The victim sustained moderate facial injuries and lacerations to her hands as a result of this assault. She was treated and later released from the hospital. Moore sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper right side and shoulder area, none of which were life threatening. He was admitted into the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Moore was placed under arrest for Attempted Murder. He remains in guarded custody at a local hospital with his bail set at $500,000. This case is still under investigation as investigators are following up on information and leads.
