Domestic Violence suspect arrested after barricading himself in home in unincorporated area of Covina

BARRICADED SUSPECT (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE) – SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

DATE/TIME: September 11, 2015 / 1009 hours / Friday
LOCATION: 19500 block of Calora Avenue, Covina (Single family residence)
SUSPECT: Sanchez, Edward MW/21

On September 7, 2015, Suspect Edward Sanchez assaulted his ex-girlfriend. He took her cell phone and refused to allow her to leave. The victim had previously obtained a restraining order against Sanchez. Until today, Sheriff’s deputies had been unable to locate him. Today at about 10:10 a.m., deputies received a call that the suspect was walking on a street a few blocks from his house. He fled from deputies, and a deputy subsequently saw him enter the rear door of his house in the 19500 block of Calora Street in the unincorporated area of Covina.

Deputies saw the suspect arguing with his father inside the house, and as deputies approached and entered the house, the suspect ran down a hallway and out of view. Deputies held their positions inside the house and contained the location, unsure if the suspect had armed himself. He was believed to be hiding in the east half of the house, but he did not respond to constant calls to surrender.

A K-9 unit, Crisis Negotiations Team, and a tactical team responded. The suspect continued to ignore instructions to give himself up. The K-9 unit and tactical team searched the location. At about 1:15 p.m., the suspect was located hiding in a water heater closet inside the home. He was arrested without further incident, and booked at San Dimas Station for the Domestic Violence related charges. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
