Message from our new Sachse Police Chief...
Greetings to our E-Watch participants. This is the first installment of a series of articles I will send out periodically to announce new programming and services or provide updates as to the operations of your police department. Last week, I presented a new program called Safe Trade to our city council. In an effort to increase the safety of our residents conducting sales and purchases of items via Craigslist or other such online venues, two parking spaces have been designated in front of the public safety building for this purpose. Safe Trade signage mark the spaces and the lot is well lit and covered by 24 hour camera surveillance viewable from our dispatch center. Additionally, citizens have the option of requesting the item(s) be checked by serial number or other identifying number to ascertain if it reported stolen. The Safe Trade spaces are also available for child custody exchanges. I encourage all of our residents to use these spaces as needed.
Many of you may have noticed a recent change to our Facebook page. We have retitled it from Sachse Neighborhood E-Watch to Sachse Police Department. Our E-Watch program remains of vital importance and we will continue efforts to grow and expand this service. Our focus with the new page will be to reach more citizens, be more accessible and provide more information about programming, services, events and other items of interest relative to the police department. As an example, in the two most recent posts concerning our new School Resource Officer vehicle and the Safe Trade program, combined, these posts reached over 7,300 people either thru direct access or shared posts. Our annual National Night Out Against Crime event is rapidly approaching and is scheduled for Tuesday October 6th. I hope all of you take this opportunity to participate in a block party, enjoy fellowship with your neighbors and partner with your police department in keeping our city safe. Myself, the Mayor, members of city council, the city manager and numerous police officers and firefighters will be touring block parties to meet with you and share information, ideas and enjoy the festivities. If you wish to register a party, it’s not too late. Contact Lt. Marty Cassidy and he will ensure your registration.
Lastly, I feel very blessed to have been selected to succeed Chief Dennis Veach upon his retirement. His commitment to quality, community oriented police service is reflected in the men and women of the department and the service programs he instilled during his tenure. I also believe strongly in partnering with our community to prevent crime, address quality of life issues and ensure a sense of safety in the community. My focus as your chief will be towards achieving these goals thru innovative service delivery, transparency and responsiveness. I and our staff are here to serve you. I can be reached at 469-429-9825. If you see something suspicious or need immediate police response, please call 911.
