Early Morning Crash Sends Two to Hospital
Delaware County – A single vehicle roll over crash on SR 3 at CR 400 South, around 2 a.m. this morning, sent a Zionsville woman and her passenger to I.U. Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie with non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Trooper Bradley Tucker responded to SR 3 in the area of CR 400 South, south of Muncie, where he found a 1994 Ford pickup truck on the north bound side berm of the driving lane. Preliminary investigation is that the truck was south bound, when, for an unknown reason the driver drove off the side of the road.
The driver, Demi Rose Zarous, age 19 of Zionsville, over corrected to the left and lost control of the truck as it entered the median. The truck entered the median and rolled onto its top, then flipped back onto its wheels as it entered the north bound side of SR 3 before coming to rest on the berm.
Zarous and her passenger, Daniel Eli Cross, age 19 of Indianapolis, were both transported to I.U. Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie with minor injuries. Trooper Tucker said that “seatbelts were in use during the crash and were effective in preventing serious injuries.” Alcohol or drugs were not suspected as factor in the crash.
According to an article in Consumer Reports April 2014 issue, about half of the fatalities that occur in roll over crashes happen when occupants are partially or completely ejected from the vehicle. In all types of crashes, nearly 3/4th‘s of those ejected are killed. (Statistics from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.)
Seatbelts save lives; so before you leave, make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly buckled up.
