Injured: 57-year-old male with life threatening injuries                             

Details:

On September 4, 2015 at about 2303 hours, Gilroy Police Officers responded to the report of a hit-and-run, vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of Church Street and Gurries Drive in Gilroy.  Upon arrival, Officers found a 57-year-old male lying unconscious in the roadway suffering from major trauma.  The unknown vehicle and driver fled the scene.  The victim was flown to an area trauma center where he underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries sustained in the collision. The victim remains in critical condition.

Witnesses at the scene described the suspect vehicle as possibly a white small to midsize SUV.  The vehicle fled north on Church Street, away from the collision.

UPDATE:

On 09/08/2015 at about 1600 hours, The Gilroy Police Department was notified by the Santa Clara County Coroners' Office that the victim in this case has died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The victim's name is being withheld pending positive identification by the coroner's office and notification of next of kin.
