Stealing Her Sister’s Identity Lands Tell City Woman in Jail

Tell City: A Tell City woman is in jail after using her sister’s identity to deceive an Indiana State Trooper.

On June 28, Trooper Jeremy Galloway conducted a traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration violation in Tell City. The driver, a female, identified herself as Crystal Pratt by using her name and date of birth. Trooper Galloway concluded the traffic stop by issuing a citation for the violation.

On September 4, Trooper Galloway received a phone call from Pratt, who informed him that she had received notice that her license had been suspended for not paying the fine for a ticket that she did not receive. Pratt informed Galloway that she had never been pulled over by him, and that she believed her sister, Amanda Pennix, 29, Tell City, had stolen her identity.

Through the course of an investigation, Trooper Galloway learned that Pennix had in fact falsely used Pratt’s name and date of birth during the June traffic stop. A warrant was issued for Pennix, which Galloway served Monday night. Pennix was arrested and lodged in the Perry County Security Center.
