Hit & Run Vehicle Totals Mercersburg Police Cruiser

VEHICLE # 1 – Hit & Run Vehicle and Driver
Driver of Vehicle # 1 fled the crash scene.

VEHICLE # 2 - 2005 gray Chevrolet Impala. Owned By:
Mercersburg Borough
113 South Main Street
Mercersburg, PA 17236

Vehicle # 2 is listed a total loss.

Vehicle # 2, a gray 2005 Chevrolet Impala used as an unmarked police vehicle was legally parked and unattended on the east side of 113 South Main Street, in front of Mercersburg Borough Hall. At 9:13 p.m. on September 1, 2015, a small dark colored pick-up truck with a cap, similar to a Chevrolet S-10, was travelling north on South Main Street. For unknown reasons, the operator of Vehicle # 1 was travelling north, apparently driving through the parking spaces along the east side of South Main Street at a speed of approximately 30-40 MPH. It appears Operator # 1 saw Vehicle # 2 was stopped and legally parked in front of him/her. Operator # 1 applied his/her brakes and slid approximately 14 feet before it’s front struck the rear of Vehicle # 2. Impact forced Vehicle # 2 to travel about 8 feet in a northerly direction through the parking spaces. Vehicle # 2 came to stop in the parking spaces with it’s front partially in a handicap parking space missing the parked vehicle in that space by about 1 inch.

After impact, Vehicle # 1 stopped and it operator backed up the vehicle and pulled into the north lane of South Main Street. Operator and Vehicle # 1 fled the crash scene travelling north on South Main Street.

Witnesses told the police the hit and run vehicle was a small dark colored pickup truck with a cap, similar to a Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Witnesses also heard a baby/child crying after the impact.
