SCAM ALERT: A number of email scams are appearing around the area. If you're not sure who sent it, don't open it!

A number of email scams are appearing in inboxes everywhere, including ours! Who would try and scam a police department, really?!?

In the past two days we've received notices our non-existent EZ-Pass account not being paid and notices to appear in court, neither of which were legitimate messages.

A few things that easily stood out to us about these messages:
- They had files attached with the .zip extension (abnormal)
- The return email addresses did not match the "Name" on the email originator's address field

Additionally.. keep yourself, your family, your friends and your computer safe! If you don't know who sent you the email, never open the attachment!

For more information about internet scams, check the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center here: http://www.ic3.gov/media/default.aspx
