Residents reporting IRS phone scam

During the last week several residents have reported receiving phone calls from subjects stating they are with the IRS and demanding payment for various tax problems. Yesterday one resident deposited almost $5,000.00 after being told they would be arrested for not paying. Luckily we were able to work with the bank and should be able to recover the funds. There were unique circumstances to this incident that allowed us to do so. In most cases there is nothing the bank can do to stop these transactions and generally little or nothing for us to go on to catch them. The IRS will always contact you by mail and if you need further information here is the link to the IRS site regarding this scam. http://www.irs.go v/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts

On behalf of the police department have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!
