Sheriff’s deputy terminated after internal investigation

EPHRATA, Wash. (02SEPT2014) - The Grant County Sheriff's Office confirms that a thorough internal investigation into the conduct of Deputy Corey Linscott has been completed and the decision has been made to terminate his employment. The employment termination for Deputy Linscott was effective August 27, 2015.

The internal investigation began April 26, 2015 after an incident where Deputy Linscott was arrested on suspicion of fourth degree assault-domestic violence. During that incident at Deputy Linscott’s home, Deputy Linscott allegedly grabbed his adult stepson by the throat and forced him out of the house.

There was also a criminal investigation into Deputy Linscott’s conduct, which was completed by the Quincy Police Department, and has been submitted to the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges. The internal investigation is separate from the criminal investigation. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has no information on the status of the criminal investigation and/or potential for continued prosecution.

“I am terribly saddened that I have had to terminate one of my deputies,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “However, given the results of the investigation, and the actions and behaviors of Corey Linscott both during the incident at his home and during the internal investigation, I was left with no other choice. Law enforcement officers should strive to earn and maintain the respect of citizens, and I believe this decision was necessary given the seriousness of the allegations of misconduct.”

It is important to note that Linscott has the right to due process and to appeal this termination. Because of that, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office will not be discussing this issue any further at this time.
