The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

August 24, 2015

1504 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a 211 PC Robbery that occurred on 08/22/15 at 2030 Hours in the parking lot of Supermarket Santa Fe at Carter Station. The victim was approached by a Hispanic male in his mid- 20’s heavy build. The suspect had short or shaved hair on the sides and was wearing a blue and white zip up style sweat shirt. The suspect was armed with a small handgun. The suspect took the victim’s watch. The suspect fled in a dark green Chevy Tahoe.

2100 Hours: Officer Mapes handled a Citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’ store. A 27 year old male from Redwood City was cited and released for 484(a) PC – shoplifting and 466 PC – possession of burglary tools.

August 25, 2015

0829 Hours: Officer Kovach was checking a suspicious vehicle on Landes Pl, when she contacted a 36 year old male from Newark. The male who is currently on parole, was arrested for possessing narcotics (H&S 11350), possessing burglary tools (PC 466) and for a parole violation. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

During a traffic stop, Detective Ramos arrested a 47 year old male from Fremont for possession of Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was booked at Fremont jail.

2238 Hours: Officer Homayoun investigated a residential burglary that occurred on Joaquin Murieta Ave. between 8/18 – 8/25 while the homeowner was on vacation. The loss is undetermined at this time and entry was gained by smashing the rear sliding glass door window.

NOTE: The Newark Police Department will conduct vacation home checks for residents who are going on vacation. Officers and members of our RAVEN patrol team will check the exterior of a residence.

August 26, 2015

2313 Hours: Officer Homayoun responded to a motorist passed out behind the wheel in a lane of traffic on Balentine Dr. and arrested a 39 year old female from Chino Hills for 23152(a)VC - DUI. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

August 27, 2015

0753 Hours: CSO Verandes investigated two auto burglaries in the IHop parking lot, 5687 Jarvis Ave. The thefts occurred between 0645 and 0750 hours. Entry was made by shattering a window of each vehicle. Loss was a floral bag in one theft and a laptop computer in the second.

0858 Hours: Officer Bloom conducted a traffic stop on Thornton Ave and contacted a 50 year old female from Newark who had a warrant for her arrest. The female was arrested on her warrant and released with a new court date.

Officer Bloom investigated a carjacking that occurred on August 14, 2015. Through an extensive investigation, a 27 year old female of Newark was identified as the suspect. Officer Bloom learned the suspect was hiding at her boyfriend’s residence in San Lorenzo. Detectives Warren and Heckman assisted Officer Bloom in attempting to locate the suspect, who has an extensive criminal history including previous robberies in addition to the current carjacking case. She also was wanted for three outstanding felony warrants. Detectives and Officer Bloom responded to San Lorenzo. After several hours of surveillance, the suspect was arrested while entering a vehicle wither boyfriend. During a search of the suspect, methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe were seized. The suspect was also in possession of a large amount of jewelry which appears as if it may have been stolen. The jewelry has been retained by Officer Bloom while she continues her investigation. The suspect was booked for the warrants, carjacking, possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Great investigation by Officer Bloom!

0056 Hours: Officer Kovach was patrolling in the 36300 block of LaSalle Drive, when she noticed two males working inside an open garage. Officer Kovach contacted a 57 year old male of Newark and a second 57 year old male who was transient and learned both were on probation for drug related offenses. Both males were found to have……yes you guessed it....methamphetamine and glass smoking pipes used to smoke methamphetamine. Both were arrested for possessing dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia (11377 H&S and 11364(a)(1) H&S). The transient male was also arrested for two outstanding no bail arrest warrants. They were booked at Fremont Jail.

August 28, 2015

1007 Hours: Officer Katz investigated a theft from the Sunglass Hut at the mall of 13 pairs of sunglasses being stolen.

1311 Hours: Officer Knutson accepted a Citizen’s Arrest from JC Penney’s Store. A 24 year old male from Fremont was arrested for 484(a) PC- shoplifting and released on a citation.

2017 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a battery between brother and sister that occurred at a residence on Stafford Place. The brother fled prior to the arrival of the police. Officer Arroyo learned there is an active restraining order protecting the sister from the brother. Officer Johnson later located the suspect’s vehicle in front of a residence in the 38200 block of Guava Dr. Officer Arroyo contacts the 32 year old brother from Fremont and arrests him for the restraining order violation.

2156 Hours: Officer Khairy conducted a pedestrian stop in the mall parking lot and contacted a 46 year old male from Newark who was on probation. A search of the male led to the recovery of a small amount of methamphetamine. The male was cited for 11377(a) H&S – possession of methamphetamine.

2350 Hours: Officer Simon conducted a traffic stop at Haley St and Mirabeau Drive and contacted a 41 year old male from Redwood City who had nearly collided with 6 parked cars. The male was arrested for DUI.

August 29, 2015

1303 Hours: Officer Nobbe arrested a 23 year old male from Newark for 245 (a)(1) PC- Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 242 PC- Battery. The suspect threw a large broken drinking glass at the victim during an argument that turned violent. He was booked at Fremont Jail. The victim was not injured.

2135 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated an incident in the Newark Square parking lot where a 27 year old female from Newark locked herself inside her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle and refused to exit while possibly damaging the vehicle’s interior. Her parents showed up to care for their intoxicated daughter. She refused to go with them. She was arrested and was booked at Fremont PD Jail for being drunk in public.

2219 Hours: Officer Khairy arrested a 22 year old male from Newark for public drunkenness after he caused a disturbance on Ruschin Drive. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

0235 Hours: Officer Simon responded to a residence in the 37100 block of Walnut St to investigate a domestic battery between the victim and a 60 year old male from Newark. The male was placed under arrest for 243(e)(1) PC – misdemeanor domestic violence. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

August 30, 2015

0632 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a stolen Honda Civic from 37171 Sycamore Street. The 2013 Civic license #7DRY625 was stolen from the parking lot in front of the victim’s apartment.

0632 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a stolen Honda Civic from 36802 Cherry Street. The 1989 Civic license #2PPM479 was stolen from the parking lot in front of the victim’s apartment.

1451 Hours: Officer Neithercutt located a stolen U-Haul box trailer on Gateway Blvd near Kiote Dr. The vehicle was loaded with property that was stolen from a storage facility in Fremont. The owner of the stolen property was contacted and picked up his stolen property.

1616 Hours: Officer Lopez was flagged down on Smith Av. near Birch St. regarding a found child. A citizen located a 2 year old male walking in the middle of Smith St. wearing a T-shirt and diaper. The child was very friendly but spoke no English. Team Two began a door to door search attempting to locate the child’s parents. After 30 minutes of searching, the child’s parents were located on Bellflower St. The child had been sleeping in his bed, but after waking was able to sneak out the open garage door. The parents were grateful and were very appreciative for all the assistance.

1858 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted a 49 year old male from Newark in front of Gubera’s Pub located at 5810 Jarvis Ave. He had a misdemeanor warrant, was placed under arrest, and was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

2037 Hours: Officer Simon contacted a 44 year old male from Newark on Zulmida St. near Jennifer St. He had a misdemeanor warrant, was placed under arrest, and was booked at Fremont PD Jail.
