Event Notification: Niles Antique Fair, Sunday, August 30, 2015 - Road closures, parking and general information

This weekend the Niles Main Street Association will host the 51st Annual Niles Antique Fair and Flea Market on Sunday, August 30, 2015, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The following roads will be CLOSED on Sunday, August 30, 2014, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

     • Niles Blvd. (between J St. and G St.)

     • F St., G St., H St. and I St. (between Second St. and Niles Blvd.)

If you live within this area, we ask that you kindly move your vehicle before Sunday morning.  Once the event begins, no traffic will be allowed in or out until the roads re-open.

The Niles Town Plaza parking lots will close Saturday eveningAugust 29, 2015, at 7:00 p.m.  All roadways and parking lots will reopen no later than 6:00 p.m. on Sunday

• Several roads in the Niles District have been posted with 72-hour "No Parking" notices.   This includes some of the narrower roads throughout historic Niles to help allow for public safety vehicles to have emergency ingress and egress access throughout the neighborhood during the event.  Fremont Police will be on-site beginning shortly after midnight to authorize the tow of vehicles left on the posted roadway

• The fee to pick up a towed vehicle the following day, ranges from $400 - $600, and can be higher if left at the tow yard for multiple days. The closures are necessary to get vendors in and unpacked before the early morning crowd arrives.

• The major roadways in Niles are public and therefore parking must be made available to the general public.  Parking in front of residences on public streets cannot be saved, reserved or sold to visitors for a fee.

• Sidewalks must remain clear and free for the use of pedestrians.

• No open alcoholic beverages are allowed at any time during the event except in lawfully designated areas (restaurants, bars, private residences, etc.).  Fremont Police will be enforcing all alcohol violations both within the event and throughout the Niles community.

• A Health Permit may be required for the cooking, selling and/or distribution of food.  The Alameda County Department of Health can be contacted at 510-567-6708.
• Regulations for sales activity:
On public property:  Without appropriate permits, it is unlawful for anybody to set up, operate, and maintain any sales activity on public property, including the streets and sidewalks.
On private property:  Residential lots are limited to the sale of personal items belonging to the residents, such as a typical garage sale would have.  It is unlawful for businesses to operate on a residential lot without a home occupation permit.

• Fremont Police staff will be on-site throughout the duration of the event to monitor and enforce parking complaints.  Vehicles parked in front of driveways, fire hydrants and ADA accessible ramps (sidewalks/corners) will be cited and possibly towed.

• Handicapped parking can be found on the south side of J Street and on Niles Boulevard close to the corner of J Street.

This event brings in several thousand people and vehicles to the small town of Niles and pedestrian safety is a high priority for police. As a friendly reminder we'd like to caution all drivers and residents to obey traffic and parking laws.
