At approximately 3:01 a.m., the Costa Mesa Police Department advised the Newport Beach Police Department’s Dispatch Center of a traffic collision on Newport Boulevard just south of Industrial Way. The collision involved a pedestrian and a black Audi A3 sedan, which had been proceeding southbound on Newport Boulevard.
The pedestrian, a 44-year old resident of Costa Mesa, sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. (His identity is being withheld at this time, pending notification of next of kin by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.) The female driver of the Audi remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. She did not require medical attention.
