For Immediate Release

Date: August 25, 2015

Issued By: Sergeant Ron Klein, Petaluma PD, 707.778.4372, email: [email protected]

Case Number: 15-4484

Location of Incident: B St. Petaluma, Ca.

Suspect: Kevin Odea 59 year old male from Petaluma

Incident: Odea arrested for DUI after information leads officers to Odea driving possibly under the influence of alcohol.

Summary: The Petaluma Police Dept. had received information regarding a Kevin Odea who resides on B St. in the city of Petaluma and that Odea might be driving under the influence of alcohol. Motor Officer Paul Accornero was traveling on B St. on August 25 at 1:39 PM when he saw the white Honda Accord which had been described as the vehicle Odea drives and positively identified Odea as the driver of the Honda. Motor Officer Accornero conducted a vehicle stop and contacted Odea who showed numerous signs of being under the influence of alcohol.

Odea performed poorly on Field Sobriety Tests and was placed under arrest for DUI. Odea has two previous convictions for DUI and is currently on probation for the offense. Odeas terms of his probation include to not drive with any alcohol in his system and he is also required to have an Interlock Ignition Device installed on any car that he drives. An Interlock Device only allows a vehicle to be operated after the driver provides a breath sample which then allows the driver to start the vehicle providing there is no alcohol in the drivers system. The driver can then be required to submit a breath sample every 15 minutes after to ensure that the driver is in fact the person who provided the breath sample.

Odea is the registered owner of the White Honda Accord he was driving and the Honda was not equipped with the mandatory Interlock Ignition Device. Odea was booked into Sonoma County Jail for DUI and Violation of Probation. His car was towed and impounded for 15 days under a California Vehicle Code Authority which allows law enforcement to tow a vehicle and impound it for 15 days if the driver has been previously convicted for DUI twice in the past 10 years.

The Petaluma Police Dept. takes every report of potential DUI drivers seriously and encourages its community to report any drivers who are believed to be driving dangerously or under the influence of alcohol.
