Evacuations will be lifted at 2:00 p.m. today for residents only. Roads within the evacuation area will remain closed to the general public until further notice.

The Summit Fire was reported at 12:25 pm, on Sunday, August 23, 2015, and has burned 100 acres south of Big Bear Lake near Snow Summit Mountain Resort in the San Bernardino National Forest. The fire is now 50 percent contained and firefighters are challenged by steep rugged terrain, rolling debris, and numerous standing dead trees. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mandatory Evacuations are in place in the following areas: all areas south of Pennsylvania Avenue between Knickerbocker Road and Jeffries Road, all areas south of Oak Street between Jeffries Road and Eureka Drive, and all areas south of McWhinney Lane between Eureka Drive and Thrush Drive.

Voluntary evacuations are now in place for the area south of Brownie Lane, east of Thrush Drive, north of Switzerland Drive, and west of Summit Blvd.

An American Red Cross shelter has been established at the Big Bear Convention Center, 42900 Big Bear Blvd, City of Big Bear Lake. Small animals may be taken to the San Bernardino County Animal Shelter (Devore) located at 19777 Shelter Way, San Bernardino, for questions call 909-386-9820. Per Big Bear Valley Unified School District, all schools with the exception of Fallsvale School are closed today, Monday August 24, for student and staff safety.
Forest Roads 2N06 (Radford), 1N54 (Clarks Grade), 2N93 (Wildhorse), and 2N10 (Skyline) are now closed. Trails closed include: Towne, Skyline, Champion Lodgepole Pine, Bluff Mesa, Grandview Point and Seven Oaks. Group Campgrounds closed include: Deer, Boulder, and Bluff Mesa.

Resources on scene include: 23 engines, 4 air tankers, 4 helicopters, 1 air attack plane, 11 crews, 6 water tenders, and 1 dozer for a total of 350 personnel.

Fire management is under Unified Command with San Bernardino County Sheriff Department and Big Bear Fire Authority.
