The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

August 21, 2015

0751 Hours: Officer Knutson investigated a minor injury collision on Central Ave. and Cherry St.

0826 Hours: CSO Verandes investigated vandalism to a vehicle that occurred in the 37200 block of Spruce St. Sometime overnight an unknown person scratched the victim’s entire vehicle.

1228 Hours: Officer Horst contacted a 36 year old male from Newark and arrested him on his felony parole warrant. He was transported and booked at the Santa Rita Jail.

1632 Hours: Officer Katz contacted a 41 year old male from Newark and arrested him on his 166.4 PC (violation of a court order) warrant. He was transported and booked at the Fremont Jail.

2345 Hours: Officer Mavrakis contacted a 30 year old male from Richmond in a vehicle in the O’Sullivan’s (Newark Square) parking lot on Thornton Avenue. He was determined to be extremely intoxicated and was arrested for being drunk in public. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail where he was released upon sobriety.

0024 Hours: Victim walked into the PD lobby to report that her boyfriend punched her in the mouth after a struggle to get her into his vehicle in the area of Mayhews Landing and Spruce. The incident was originally reported by an uninvolved citizen, who observed the altercation and later followed the vehicle into Fremont. A 27 year old Fremont resident was contacted and arrested at his residence. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

Thank you to the citizen who took the appropriate action to witness, call, and report a violent crime to the police.

August 22, 2015

1002 Hours: Officer Lopes arrested a 51 year old female from Newark for an outstanding Felony drug warrant. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1051 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a vehicle burglary in the 8200 block of Mandarin Avenue. The loss was a briefcase, paperwork, and a 12 volt drill.

1931 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a residential ransack at a residence in the 37100 block of Birch St where the front door was kicked open sometime between 3PM and 7:30PM. The loss includes Air Jordan Shoes and jewelry.

2229 Hours: Officer Arroyo and Officer Simon responded to a noise complaint from a house party in the 6200 block of Honeysuckle Dr. There was initial reluctance to answer the door and eventually, the homeowner a 52 year old Newark resident met officers outside the residence. The homeowner was extremely intoxicated and refused to cooperate with officers. He was arrested for 647f PC- public intoxication and 148(a)(1)PC – resisting arrest. He was medically cleared at a local hospital and transported to Santa Rita Jail.


August 23, 2015

0935 Hours: Officer Musantry conducted a traffic enforcement stop on 64 year old male from Newark. He was found to have a suspended drivers license and in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. He was issued a citation and his vehicle towed.
