Motorcyclist Injured in Crash on Interstate 94

Portage, Porter County

The Indiana State Police Lowell Post investigated a crash, this Friday, August 21, 2015, afternoon that injured a Michigan motorcyclist.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Holmen revealed that on August 21st, 2015 at 01:58 p.m. a 2002 BMW motorcycle, being driven by Paul Consiglio of Ypsilanti, Michigan, was driving west on Interstate 94 near Portage, Indiana.  For unknown reasons he lost control of his bike and crashed at the 19.3 mile marker.  The bike and driver came to a stop in between the interstate and the exit ramp of the State Road 249.  The driver of the bike was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  The driver was transported from the scene to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

Witnesses stated that the driver appeared to fall from his motorcycle for unknown reasons.  Trooper Holmen stated,” The driver’s helmet made direct contact with the roadway, and if he had not been wearing it his injuries likely would have been much more severe.”
