Officer Joshua Vinson selected Officer of the Year by Kiwanis.
Joshua Vinson started his career as a Police Officer with the Jackson Police Department on February 19, 2013. Officer Vinson has always taken the “How can I help” approach in performing his daily duties. He never complains and is always willing to lend a hand to his district partners and to the citizens of the City. He is always polite and considerate to the numerous citizens that he has contact with on a daily basis.
Officer Vinson is very diligent in his work. He is highly regarded by his supervisors and fellow officers as an outstanding Officer. Officer Vinson pays close attention to the crime trends in his assigned area and addresses these issues on a constant basis.
Recently, Officer Vinson was flagged down by a citizen requesting assistance for her daughter who was in labor. Officer Vinson’s swift actions in delivering the baby and removing the umbilical cord from the baby’s neck, potentially saved the newborns life. Officer Vinson was recommended for a Life Saving Award for these actions.
On another occasion, due to Officer Vinson’s diligence and keen observation, he was able to apprehend a Motor Vehicle Theft suspect within moments of the theft.
Officer Vinson is a very pro-active officer. There are many more examples of Officer Vinson’s dedication to his job. He is a great asset to the Jackson Police Department and the City of Jackson. Fellow officers should follow the example that he sets. Officer Vinson is very humble and doesn’t seek any special attention even when that attention is deserved. He credits his service in the United States Marine Corps with his work and disciplinary values and the Department for enhancing those values.
