VICTIM: Confidential
SUMMARY:
On August 18, 2015, at approximately 12:45 pm, Deputies from Sheriff’s Central Station responded to the report of a stabbing that had just occurred at a residence in the 7100 Block of N. Conejo Dr. The reporting party indicated that an adult male had just been stabbed in front of the location and was walking away, towards Baseline Rd. Responding deputies quickly located the male walking along Tippecanoe Ave, south of Baseline Rd. Upon contact, deputies found that the male (later identified as Chavez) had an open stab wound to his lower back. Deputies immediately detained Chavez and had Fire personnel respond for treatment. Chavez was later transported by ambulance to a local hospital for additional treatment.
As deputies continued the investigation, they learned that Chavez had gone to the victim’s residence to confront her about the recent end of their relationship. While he was at the residence, he became angry at the victim because he was denied entry into the house. He produced a pocket knife and tried to make entry into the residence by prying the windows open. The victim was in fear and yelled for him to stop while remaining inside the residence, behind the locked security screen door. Chavez charged the front door with the knife, attempting to stab through the screen door at the victim. The victim had armed herself with a large kitchen knife out of fear Chavez would harm her. Chavez was able to partially open the security screen door, attempting to enter the residence. The victim and Chavez physically struggled at the doorway and the victim was struck in the face. As the struggle continued, the victim threw the knife at Chavez, striking him in the lower back and causing a small puncture wound. Chavez immediately fled the location on foot until he was located/detained by deputies.
After receiving treatment for his injury, Chavez was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for Felony Attempted Residential Robbery.
