Two people jailed after two-county pursuit

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (18AUG2015) – Two Columbia Basin residents were arrested early Tuesday after a pursuit through southern Grant and northern Adams counties.

Monday night, Grant County deputies had responded to a report of car prowling and shots fired near State Route 17 and Road 5-Southeast. During that incident, a citizen confronted persons in a vehicle who were allegedly prowling cars in the area. When confronted, the suspect vehicle took off and the citizen gave chase in his own vehicle. During that chase, the driver of the suspect vehicle fired several shots at the pursuing citizen. No one was hurt. The citizen was able to provide deputies a description of the fleeing car.

Then, around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a deputy saw a car that matched the description given earlier fail to stop at the stop sign at Road M-Southeast and Road 2-Southeast. The deputy followed the car south on Road M and watched it fail to stop at the stop sign at State Route 262, then continue east on SR262 toward SR17 and into Adams County.

Othello police and Adams County deputies assumed control of the pursuit. After 48 minutes, the suspect vehicle stopped, the two occupants fled on foot and were quickly captured. During the foot chase, one of the occupants threw a handgun in an apparent attempt to hide it.

The suspect vehicle was found to be recently stolen from a Moses Lake resident.

In custody:

• Alondra I. Yanez, 18 of Moses Lake, jailed for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

• Guillermo Valdez M III (correct spelling), 27 of Othello, jailed for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and attempting to elude.

The investigation continues.
