PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF

Aug 10 - 16, 2015

 

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations

and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Bear Related Calls:  A third party called to report her friend had posted on Face book that he was staying at Allison point campground in a tent and a bear was attacking it.  He was too afraid to call because the bear might hear and requested anyone that sees it call the Valdez Police Department.  An Officer responded to the area, the bears had moved on.  The campers packed up the camp site to leave the area.

MVA-D:  A caller reported that someone hit a vehicle in the parking lot.  This incident was already reported and was being handled. Insurance information was exchanged, it’s being taken care of between the parties involved.

Parking Problems:  A caller reported someone had been parked in the same spot over the weekend and did not believe they were supposed to be.  An Officer investigated the incident and spoke with the owner of the vehicle.

Arrested:   Fuller, Tony Leeon, DOB 07/03/1970 of Valdez was arrested for non-compliance to re-register for Sex Offender Registry.

Animal Bite:  A caller reported being bit by a dog on 08/07/15.  She did not report it at that time because the owner stated they were going to put the dog down.  After seeing the dog again, she filed the report.  Officers, as well as the Animal Control Officer investigated the incident and determined the offending pit bull had been put down by it's owners.

Missing Person:  A caller attempted to file a missing person report on her daughter and her husband.  She last saw them before going to jail.  She has been trying to locate them for over a year.

Parking Problems:  While on patrol the Community Safety Officer saw a camper parked by Ruth Pond.  The Individual was reminded of the camping ordinances by the Community Safety Officer.

DUI:   Poroszlay, Tamas Z., DOB 01/07/1984 of Levittown, NY was arrested on the charge of Driving under the Influence.  His breath-alcohol content registered .112

Suspicious Person:  Suspicious individuals were reported to be hanging out around residences in the Valdez area.  Officers made contact with a couple individuals who appeared to be intoxicated.  They were walking to their residence to sleep it off.

Animal DOA:  A caller requested a dead rabbit to be removed from the street.  A Community Safety Officer responded and disposed of the rabbit appropriately.

Animal at Large:  A caller reported a dog at large.  A Community Safety Officer responded but when he arrived in the area the dog was no longer there.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported a truck speeding down the road at Corbin Creek Subdivision.  When he attempted to motion to the driver to slow down, the driver flipped him off.  Officers responded and were unable to locate the vehicle.

Parking Problems:  A third party complainant states a truck and trailer are parked in the handicap parking spot by the public boat ramp without a handicap tag.  This was also reported to the Harbor Master Office by an individual that needed the handicap space.  An Officer investigated the handicap parking spots and they were either unoccupied or the vehicles parked there had current handicap tags.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported while crossing the street with six middle schoolers, a dark blue truck with 4-5 teenagers sped up and pretended as if they were going to hit the pedestrians.  Officers were unable to locate the truck matching that description.

Camping Prohibited Area:  While on patrol a Community Safety Officer investigated a camper that was parked in a no parking area. 

Animal at Large:  A black dog was reported running around at the corner of Robe River Dr and Meals Ave.  A Community Safety Officer was able to locate the dog and returned it to the owner.  The owner was also advised to keep their dog on a leash.

Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Safety Officer made contact with a camper on Robe River Dr.  They were advised they couldn’t park there for the night.  They relocated to a campsite on Dayville Rd.

DUI: Pupo-Ramirez, Rubier DOB: 07/11/1986 of Anchorage, was arrested on the charge of Driving under the Influence and Refusal to Provide Breath Test.  His breath-alcohol content registered .091 on scene with a PBT

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported a dark truck swerving over the fog line and the center line heading inbound on the Richardson Hwy.  Officers made contact with the vehicle.  The driver was trying to find the RV Park and was taking in the sights.

Public Speaking/Appearance:  An officer provided an ALICE training update for Valdez City School District teachers.

MICS Marijuana:  Three juveniles were contacted for smoking marijuana.  Two of the juveniles were already on Juvenile Probation, the case has been forwarded to their case officer.

MVA-D:  A two vehicle accident was reported outbound on the Richardson Hwy by Mark’s Repair.  Officers responded and assisted with getting the vehicles towed and providing transportation to one of the individuals.  No injuries were reported.

Welfare Check:  A caller reported a welfare check on a female passed out in the bathroom at dock point.  Officers reported the individual was fine and she had fallen asleep on the toilet.  EMS was requested to evaluate the female.

Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Safety Officer left a door hanger on two campers at the Valdez Harbor Dry Dock reminding them of the camping ordinances.

Sound of Shots Fired:  Gunshots were heard in the Robe River Subdivision area.  Another individual heard them coming from behind the Gold Fields.  Officers patrolled the area and were unable to locate anyone shooting guns.

Traffic Hazard:  Two pedestrians were reported walking in the outbound lane on the Richardson Hwy by Glacier Stream Bridge.  Officers made contact and provided transportation home.  They were walking on the highway because it was dark and they were afraid of bears on the bike path.

Disturbance Noise:  Several complaints of a dirt bike speeding around town with no headlights and making loud noise.  Officer made contact with the individual and he said he would take his dirt bike back to the campground for the night.

Barking Dog:  A caller reported a dog who had been barking continuously.  Officers made contact with the owner and resolved the issue.

Reckless Driving:  A caller reported a truck driving recklessly that had almost caused a head on collision.  A 55 gallon drum fell out of the back of the truck.  An Officer issued the driver a warning for unsecured load.

Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Safety Officer contacted an individual in a non-camping area and advised them of the camping regulations.  Camper agreed to move for the night.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported being cut-off by another vehicle that was swerving between the center and fog lines on the Richardson Highway.  Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle who stated they were just sightseeing.  There was no type of impairment.

ETOH Pedestrian:  Officers assisted providing transportation to an intoxicated individual.  He was turned over to a sober party to take care of him for the night.

FISH & Game: A caller reported a porcupine in the stairwell of a local business.  Officers responded to the business and escorted the porcupine out of the building.

Serve Time:  Delmonte, Antonio DOB 09/21/1982 of Valdez checked into Valdez Police Department to serve time of 3 days for original charge of Driving Under the Influence.

Fish & Game:  A caller reported a black bird flew into a local business and is stuck behind a refrigerator.   An Officer responded to the business and captured the bird and released it outside the building.

Theft Vehicle:  A caller reported that his vehicle was taken from his driveway sometime after 4:30am.  An Officer investigated and the vehicle was located at the previous owner’s home.  This is a civil matter.

Found Property:  Cash was turned into the Police Department.  To claim please call the Police Department with amount and the location of where it was lost.

Abandoned Vehicle:  A caller reported an old model dodge with a camper, light brown or gold, parked out at Old Town in the tide water.  It has been there for a few days but no activity or people around.  A Community Safety Officer investigated but the vehicle was not in the area.

Parking Problems:  While on patrol the Community Safety Officer saw a motor home that was taking up a whole row of parking.   The owner was not around so a door knocker was left explaining the rules of parking in Valdez. 

Camping Prohibited Area:  While on patrol a Community Safety Officer stopped across from Ruth Pond with a camper that was parked in a non camping area.  The owners walked up and they will be moving the camper.

Camping Prohibited Area:  While on patrol a Community Safety Officer stopped at a camper that was in a non camping area.  The owners were not around so a door knocker was left informing them of the camping regulations in Valdez.

Disturbance Bar:  A bartender reports that she is trying to kick someone out and he was refusing to leave the bar.  An Officer responded to the location but the individual had already left.

Trespassing:  A minor was caught trespassing at a residence to which he had already been trespassed from.  An Officer investigated and issued a curfew warning to the minor and forwarded Criminal Trespass charges to the Juvenile Probation officer.

Theft of Property:  A caller reported sometime during the night his rain deflectors were stolen from his truck.  This case is currently under investigation.

Theft of Property:  A caller reported a 25hp Mercury Outboard stolen from her boat in the yard, in the past couple of weeks.  This case is currently under investigation.

Concealment of Merchandise:  A local business reported a male individual shoplifting.  The individual was still shopping, but put the item back.  The business stated they would call back if he left with the merchandise.  No further action taken.

Welfare Check:  A caller reported that someone was supposed to be back from Anchorage and on return was to pick up his dog.  Caller has not been able to contact the person.   An Officer investigated and found the person was at Mat-Su Pretrial Correctional Facility and informed the caller.

Camping Prohibited Area:  While on patrol the Community Safety Officer saw a camper parked in a non camping area at Robe Lake.  The owner agreed to move the camper to a proper camping area.

Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Safety Officer advised a camper on Dayville road that they were in a non camping area.  The owner agreed to move the camper.

Domestic No Arrest:  Callers reported a couple arguing in front of a local business.  It had been going on for awhile and looked like it might be getting worse.  Officers responded to the area and found a verbal argument over a movie.  No further action required.
