Back to School Day! The safety of all Monterey Park children is in our hands as parents, educators, and law enforcements officers.

Dear Parents:
The safety of all Monterey Park children is in our hands as parents, educators, and law enforcements officers. With this thought in mind, the Monterey Park Police Department would like to remind you to drive safely around our schools.
If you drive your child to school, remember to be extra careful and to obey fundamental traffic laws. The Monterey Park Police Department proactively enforces traffic laws near and around schools. Your careful attention to your driving habits may help you to avoid a citation or more importantly a horrible tragedy.
Here are a few driving reminders:
• Use the Valet Drop off lanes if your school has one.
• When a school crossing guard raises their stop sign and steps off the curb, you must STOP and remain stopped until ALL the children and the crossing guard are off the street.
• Stopping alongside other cars to drop or pick up your child impedes the normal flow of traffic and causes traffic congestion.
• Drop your child off on the same side of the street as the school. DO NOT EVER force your child to dodge traffic by dropping them off on the opposite side of the street.
• Red painted curbs means NO STOPPING. Never sacrifice safety for convenience.
• A School Bus with Flashing Red Lights indicates loading and unloading children. STOP IN BOTH DIRECTIONS until lights stop flashing.
We share the same desires and goals to help keep your children healthy, happy and safe. Thank you for taking the time to read and adhere to these safety guidelines.
