The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

August 14, 2015

1643 hours: CSO Parks investigated a theft from a back porch in the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta Ave. A lawn mower and leaf blower were taken sometime on 08/13/15.

1901Hours: Officer Mavrakis conducted a traffic stop at Cedar and Central and cited the driver, a 33 year old female from Newark for 14601.1 VC- driving on a suspended license.

2146 Hours: Lieutenant Loth conducted a traffic stop at Cedar and Lake. The driver a 45 year old male from Newark was found to be unlicensed. Lt. Loth smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. Ofc. Khairy arrived to assist and arrested the driver for DUI. Lt. Loth towed the vehicle.

2245 Hours: Officers responded to Home Depot to investigate a reported motorcyclist riding recklessly in the lot. Officer Smith and Lt. Loth located the motorcyclist riding on the curb. Officer Smith ultimately arrested the rider, a 31 year old male from Sunnyvale for an outstanding warrant.

0207 Hours: Lt. Loth spotted a DUI driver on Northbound Hwy 880 as he was heading home from his shift. After following the vehicle for several miles, California Highway Patrol arrived to assist. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was arrested for DUI.

If you suspect a driver is DUI, call 911 and notify the appropriate police agency of your observations. Do not take enforcement action, but be a great witness and provide updated information regarding the driver’s actions.

August 15, 2015

1105 Hours: Officer Losier was detailed to a report of a shoplifter in custody at Mi Pueblo market. Mi Pueblo’s manager placed a 34 year old female from Newark under citizen’s arrest for a violation of 484 PC-petty theft. She was released on a citation.

1410 Hours: Officer Neithercutt responded to a report of a disturbance involving a male and female in the area of Thornton Ave and Sycamore St. Officer Neithercutt eventually located a 32 year old male from Union City and arrested him for an outstanding warrant. He was transported and booked at Fremont PD jail.

0143 Hours: As three uniformed NPD officers were standing near the front of O'Sullivan's bar conducting a security check, an intoxicated male patron spilled out of the bar and engaged in a verbal dispute with on-site security officers. Officer Smith subsequently contacted a 30 year old male from Redwood City and determined he was too intoxicated in public to care for himself. He was booked at Fremont Jail for 647(f) PC – drunk in public.

0413 Hours: NPD Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Thornton Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the occupant(s) had left the collision scene. A subject was located on Musick Avenue and determined to be a passenger. Officer Simon investigated the collision and has identified the driver. The investigation is ongoing at the time of this release.

August 16, 2015

1444 Hours: Officer Musantry took custody of a 17 year old from Fremont for shoplifting at Macy’s. He was released to his mother.

0127 hours: Officer Simon conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. Officer Simon arrested the driver, a 42 year old female from Fremont for 23152(a) CVC- DUI. She was transported and booked at Fremont PD jail.

2318 hours: Officer Khairy was detailed to a report of an assault in progress involving a male and female. The male was reported to be kicking the female in the head. Officers arrived and observed the male and female walking in the EZ 8 Motel parking lot. Both subjects were detained while officers conducted their investigation. As officers spoke with the male he became non-compliant and attempted to get away from officers. Officer Khairy ultimately arrested a 48 year old male from Fremont for a violation of 273.5 PC- felony domestic violence and 148 PC- resisting arrest. He was booked at Fremont Jail.
