Details:
On 08/16/2015 at about 0217 hours a drive by shooting occurred in the 7500 block of Alexander Street in the City of Gilroy. The investigation revealed that a 24 year old male victim and a group of friends/acquaintances were standing in front of the victim’s residence when a dark colored, possibly black, Honda or similar type vehicle occupied by 3-4 unknown suspects passed slowly in front of the residence. As the vehicle drove past, one of the occupants opened fire with a small caliber firearm. One of the projectiles struck the victim in the arm causing serious but non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle and an uninvolved residence were also struck by errant rounds fired from the suspect vehicle.
The victim and witnesses in this case provided very little information about the suspects or suspect vehicle. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of his injury.
The initial call was handled by the Gilroy Police Department patrol units. The incident is believed to be gang related and follow-up investigation will be completed by the department’s gang unit, the Anti-Crime Team (ACT).
