2 arrested on stolen auto charges after early Sunday morning incident.

On Sunday August 16th at approximately 9am, APD offices were sent to the Red Roof Inn at 6800 I-40 West on a stolen vehicle that had just occurred. Upon arrival the officer met with the victim who reported that someone had stolen his green 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche during the night. The officer made the report and put out a broadcast to other officers working that shift.

At approximately 10:08am, an APD officer on routine patrol duties observed a green Chevrolet Avalanche sitting at the traffic light at 10th and Buchanan that matched the description of the stolen vehicle. The officer turned and pulled in behind the vehicle and noticed the tag number was the same as the reported stolen one. Officers stopped the vehicle and began ordering the driver out of the vehicle. After the male driver was removed and placed in handcuffs, a female passenger slid over and got in the driver’s seat and put the vehicle in gear and sped off. While officers were securing the original driver, additional officers went in pursuit of the stolen vehicle with the female now driving. After a couple of quick turns, the Avalanche was now eastbound on SE 7th from S. Fillmore, where the driver lost control and struck the curb blowing out both drives side tires. A witness told officers that a female got out of the Avalanche and was seen running north from the accident scene. A short time later, APD officers located the female near 6th and Tyler and she was taken into custody.

The original driver is identified as Jason Ellsworth Wilson W/M 40 of Amarillo. Wilson was arrested and booked into Potter County for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (UUMV). The second driver is identified as Alysia Rochelle Gomez H/F 25. Gomez was booked into Potter County Correction Center for UUMV, Sex Offender Duty to Register Life/90 days, Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than one gram, Fail to ID-Fugitive intentionally giving false/fictitious name and 3 local municipal warrants.
