SUNNYVALE, Calif. - At 4pm officers responded to the Motel 6 (806 W. Ahwanee) on a suspicious activity call reported by a citizen. The arriving officers contacted two male suspects in a black Jaguar XF sedan matching the description provided by the citizen. The two suspects ran from the officers across San Aleso towards a commercial complex.

Officers chased after both suspects. A fully loaded high capacity magazine fell in the street from one of the suspects as the officers chased them. Officers continued to chase the suspects behind the commercial complex at 760 San Aleso, where the officer involved shooting occurred. The other suspect continued to flee from officers. The suspect fled into the neighborhood near Ferndale and Madrone. Officers initiated life-saving efforts on the suspect involved in the shooting. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm was located near his body and another firearm in a backpack he was carrying.

A search lasting over 6 hours involving several agencies was conducted in the Ferndale/Madrone neighborhood looking for the second suspect believed to be armed. The suspect was not located during the search. Officers are following-up on information that he may have fled the area.
