Good Samaritan and disabled motorist hit while changing tire on Interstate.

Crown Point, Lake County – The Indiana State Police Lowell District investigated a crash, this Thursday evening, August 13, 2015, that injured two pedestrians.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Goubeaux revealed that at approximately 6:45 p.m. a 1995 purple Dodge Intrepid being driven by Danielle Nicole Stovall, 31, of Lowell, Indiana, ran off the roadway on Interstate 65 at the 247.5 mile marker (this is just south of the ramp to US 231).   The crash involved one vehicle, one disabled motorist and a good Samaritan who was assisting the disabled motorist change a flat tire. The disabled motorist was identified as Megan Lea Nilson, 23, of Michigan City, Indiana. The good Samaritan was identified as Dennis C. Wagner, 60, of San Pierre, Indiana.

A Witness said that the driver of the Dodge Intrepid ran off the roadway and sideswiped the disabled motorist and good Samaritan who had pulled over to help change a flat tire.  The witness said he saw the 1995 purple Dodge leave the scene after striking the pedestrians.  The witness followed the driver of the purple Dodge to a local motel where he notified the police. The driver of the 1995 purple Dodge was taken into custody.  Stovall, Nilson, and Wagner were transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital, Crown Point, Indiana with non life threatening injuries. 

Investigation in to the cause of the crash is ongoing.  Impairment may have been a contributing factor to the crash.   Stovall was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and operating while intoxicated.
