MBPD Community Police Academy Now Accepting Applications For Winter Program

The Manhattan Beach Police Department is currently accepting applications for the winter 2016 Community Police Academy.  The Academy is a ten-week program that is designed to educate residents and local citizens on the various aspects of law enforcement.  The first session will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 6:00-9:00 P.M. in the Community Room of the Manhattan Beach Police Department.  Classes will continue every Thursday and will culminate with a graduation ceremony on March 10th.

The objective of the Academy is to increase understanding between the citizens and the police within the City of Manhattan Beach through education.  The Academy will create a growing nucleus of well-informed citizens who seek to familiarize themselves with the people who serve as officers and what they do within their community.  Time and energy will be devoted to developing an informative and hands-on overview of the fundamentals of police procedures, programs and policies.  Each session will highlight select divisions (i.e. Patrol, SWAT, K-9, Traffic & Detectives) within the Department and feature instruction by police officers, support personnel, as well as management staff.

This Academy is not intended to prepare citizens for street duty as police officers.  Instead, participants will be closely familiar with the operations of the Manhattan Beach Police Department and at the same time, through this interaction with our residents, our Officers work toward building stronger community relationships.

To participate, an Academy application must be submitted for review to determine suitability for the program and meet the following criteria:

-Must be at least 18 years old (High School Students Encouraged to Apply)

-Must reside or work within the City of Manhattan Beach

-Must not have felony convictions

-Must not be wanted for any crime

-Must submit to a limited background check (to include: warrants & criminal history)

For more program information, please call Officer Stephanie Martin (310) 802-5186 or email: [email protected].  Academy Applications and brochures are available on the city website for download: www.citymb.info
